Signs of Problems with Your Car’s Muffler

Exhaust leak

If you notice a new vibration or loss of power when operating your car, have the exhaust system checked by a professional. You might notice the new vibration when you touch the steering wheel, foot pedals or car seat.

You might or might not hear a rumbling sound, depending on the size of the damaged area. A hole, exhaust leak or disconnected exhaust system component don’t just cause vibrations, they can also signal the engine is no longer running at optimum performance.

Exhaust system affects fuel efficiency

If you notice you have to fill up your gas tank more often than normal, have your exhaust system checked out by a muffler repair shop.

Similar to the vibrations, increased fuel use is a sign something is wrong with your car. When the exhaust leaks, your engine works harder. When your engine works harder, it requires more fuel.

Wow, I didn’t know that the exhaust system could have an actual effect on your car’s fuel efficiency. If that is the case, then I imagine that most people would want to get that looked at as soon as possible instead of having to pay for gas more. I also suppose that it is just safer to have your exhaust checked out regularly to make sure that it won’t backfire or damage your car.

My car has been making a lot of rumbling sounds lately. I’ll have to take my car in to see if it is the muffler that needs to be fixed. Thanks for the information.

Thanks for informing me that I have to get my muffler checked out by a professional mechanic if I fill up my gas tank more often than usual because it’s a sign that there’s something wrong with my car. I’ve noticed that in my car for the past few weeks because a full tank gas usually lasts two weeks, but now it only lasts a week. I’ll follow your advice and take my car to a muffle repair service soon. Thanks!

I never realized that the gas tank emptying faster than normal could be a sign that there is something wrong with the exhaust system. My brother is trying to get a lot of work done on his new car this year. He needs to find a local professional that can help with these services so they are done properly.
